The New Play Database (NPD) is unique in the UK. It was born for several reasons.

Firstly, it's a frustrating and expensive job for playwrights to promote their work by sending out scripts to whoever they think might be interested. Wouldn't it be better to be able to post samples of your work just once, and then to have a large number of producers read it at the same time?

Secondly, it can be just as frustrating for producers who are on the look-out for exciting new work, but are unsure of where to look, short of running expensive adverts in newspapers, or wading through piles of scripts stored in no particular order in an archive. Wouldn't it be cheaper and more convenient to have free access to play extracts which are listed according to their particular genre?

If you add to these benefits the fact that both the above can be achieved without even leaving home, you can begin to see the potential of the NPD.

Please note that the NPD is no longer accepting submissions. However, feel free to browse.
